Swinging Squirrels

Aidan came to me with a wooden swing he had made and he asked if we could make a squirrel swing on it. Why not, right? So we all got to work on what is really the goofiest and most entertaining thing that has been in our yard in a long time.

They both worked very hard and the design was great. They thought a ramp would be good and baited the squirrels with peanut butter all the way up and onto the swing. It has been fun to see the squirrels figure it out!

Returning

Thanks to all those who have noticed my absence! Sorry for the long weeks of silence but we were getting our first shot of full-time homeschooling and that is definitely where all my attention has been (you should see the dish pile and dust bunnies, ugh). I have lots of posts to come full of nature, science, castles and crafty goodness so stay tuned - I'm back! ;)

For today here's my favorite pic of the week. A hike with my Dad and the kids.

Summer of Friends and Art

Missing the little artists and their fabulous parents already.

(warning: the video is a little long but I wanted each child to be able
to see all of their artwork. phew... we were busy this summer!)

Beautiful Beads

We painted the beads from a previous class and strung them up. Amazing what you can make with salt, flour, paint and 16 creative kids!

Fabric Families

One of my personal favorites for sure. We made these in Art Club and they were just perfect pieces of art. I cut out fabric scraps in the shapes of shirts, dresses, hats, etc. and let the kids put them together to make the people in their families. The fabric gave them a base to then add the details like arms, legs and heads.

Tis the season...

for homemade popsicles!

One of our many recipes:

1 cup organic frozen strawberries

1 cup organic frozen pineapple

1 cup organic frozen peaches

1 cup yogurt (any flavor will do but we used Stoneyfield Strawberry)

1 1/2 cups juice (we used punch but orange, pineapple or apple will do)

2 tbsp flax seed oil

Blend and pour into containers, insert sticks, freeze and enjoy!

Flinging Paint

My little artists heading outside for some good ol' fling painting. They had fun and I think you'll agree that the masterpieces are quite stunning.

In addition to their own pictures, they all worked together on a giant mural. I loved how this project evolved. They all had their own technique and even the unintentional spills produced a very cool effect. Good job guys!

If you want to fling paint at home:
~go outside (a must)
~dilute some washable tempera paint with water
~use a long brush and fling the paint onto paper (we used poster board from the dollar store)
